Both ‘Hawk’ and ‘Possum’ are Google algorithms.
What is ‘Hawk’ Local Search Algorithm Update?
Introduced by Google in August 2017, the ‘Hawk’ algorithm is meant to counter the Possum algorithm that was launched in September 2016. Both filter local listings.
How it affects
Through these algorithms, similar local results are filtered; only the relevant ones are displayed in the search pages.
To whom its effects
Listings that are located in close proximity or have the same phone number/websites are being filtered out. Also, same companies having numerous listings are prevented from monopolizing the search results.
What are the changes?
With ‘Hawk’, it seems that Google is not filtering as many businesses that are situated in nearby localities when compared to ‘Possum’.
