It was reported in May, that at the end of Q2 the AJAX scheme will not be remaining anymore. The fact remains that Q2 has come and gone but that does not mean that it has gone away completely.
John Mueller from Google mentioned on Twitter that they have switched to using #! for pages in place of the ?_escaped_fragment_= versions.” He also mentioned that there will still be the use of some direct links but that will not make the crawling stop. So, that implies that there is not a complete cutoff.
The AJAX crawling started from the year 2009 and it was waning away since 2015. But then, Q2 came into the scene on 2018 and Google started announcing that it is chopping off on the AJAX schemes.
