Much awaited, WhatsApp Payments feature has finally been rolled out across India backed by unified Payments Interface (UPI), available for both Android and iOS. Considering the app’s immense popularity, this new feature will turn out be pretty convenient and users will now be able to send and receive directly to your bank account i.e. Peer-to-Peer. As it is based on UPI, the money will go straight to your bank account without the support of mobile wallets and other similar financial instruments. You can get this feature just by updating the WhatsApp to its latest version 2.18. You need someone who has already got the Payments feature to message you, then you have to relaunch WhatsApp and the feature will automatically appear.
WhatsApp Payments Setup
Step 1: Tap on “Payments” option in Settings.
Step 2: Add your bank account in “Add New Bank Account” tab.
Payments will work only with the mobile number that is registered with your bank. You won’t have the option to add and link new mobile number to your bank account through WhatsApp.
Step 3: Just accept the terms and conditions and verify your mobile number.
Satisfy the necessary pre-conditions and if you want the service, search for a ‘Payments’ tab in the ‘Settings’ drop-down within the application. Users then have to verify their phone numbers by choosing “Verify via SMS.
When the mobile number is verified by WhatsApp UPI platform, the list of bank accounts linked to that particular mobile number will automatically show up. Choose your preferred bank account and enter other details of the debit card to create a Virtual Payee Address (VPA). All major banks are supported.
